Hey, I’m Kirrily and I graduated from Year 12 in 2020 with a 50 in Chemistry. Like many others, I had no idea what 2020 had in store for me, however I had one goal in mind. All I wanted to do was to give this year my very best, hoping that I would be a blessing to reflect on my results with satisfaction and pride. Having been through this myself, I am now ready to pass on my knowledge and support to you through your final year at school.
Whether you’re completing VCE Chemistry as a prerequisite, to keep your options open, or out of a love of science like me, I can help you succeed – no matter what your goals are. While Chemistry undoubtedly covers a lot of content, memorisation alone isn’t enough. To achieve highly, topics must be conceptually understood so that you can adapt to whatever the exam throws at you. But that’s not all – it’s how you use this knowledge that counts. Lecture 1: Practice Exam Technique
In Chemistry, the exam counts for 60% of your whole study score. Its importance cannot be underestimated- it has the potential to compensate for any lost SAC marks from over the year.
The saying is true- practice makes perfect. I’ll guide you on exactly when to start doing practice exams to maximise your chances at success without burning out too early.
Completing a practice exam is only the half of it- to make the most of these valuable resources, I’ll show you how I recorded all my errors and then learnt from these- ensuring I never made the same mistake twice.
Lecture 2: The Scientific Method
The scientific method is central to any of the sciences, however it is often overlooked or sacrificed for the other content that must be covered, having been previously taught in junior years.
The scientific method never changes- unlike the course content which can be manipulated or inserted into new scenarios to trip you up. It is guaranteed to appear on the exam every year, and if you understand it, it is one of the easiest areas to collect marks in.
Again, this SAC is one of the easiest to do well in- there are no trick questions. I’ll show you exactly what the markers are looking for to ensure you gain every possible mark and go in with confidence.
